The RCC's first ever Halloween Blitz (Juniors only) is planned for Monday October 31st - please arrive at the club at your normal time ready for start around -ish.
Expect to be playing some scarily- & spookily-named gambits!!
Top board Hugh Murphy was also shot down by the ever-improving Peter Jaszkiwskyj and David Walker gently overcame the relentless battling of our Saj on Board 3 to take the top 3 boards for the Kettlers.
Alan Lewis masterfully maintained his legendary record of claiming a half-point saver for the team when all else seems lost and Richard Ellis kept up a good start to the season keeping pace on the board with Chris Keech but bettering him on time to flag the whole point.
Tim Herring returned to anchor Board 2 and son Sam sat imperiously aloft his Board 1 throne to give the Beamsters plenty to think about.
James Wicks was first to fall under his Wheels of Chess Fire on Board 5 after Will Connellan snaffled an early pawn advantage.
The other 2 games took a little longer but both came home with Bd3 ' Super' Sajan Ganger nailing another grinding win after an early pawn snaffle enabled him to exchange off into a won pawn ending, while on Bd5 Tony Blott almost reaped dividends from Richard Ellis after some Sicilian strangeness munched it's way into his clock, but Richard managed to gathered his focus and make the time control with some relief before positional and material advantage made itself felt. ~-~-~-~-2016-10-17 ~ SKL B-Division : Rushden C 3 - 2 Oundle School Rushden's Seamsters finally got off the board with their first win in a very close fought match with Geoff Crook's Oundle Schoolboy protégés. What a guy eh, here at RCC almost from the very beginning in 1977 and has been a week-in week-out supporter of the club as well as turning out for us in the county league for 40 years now. It's going to be very sad and tearful to say bye-bye to someone is genuinely a living-but-leaving legend of RCC.~-~-~-~-2016-10-11 ~ SKL A-Division : Chess Mates B 4 - 1 Rushden A Bit of a setback this for the Aimsters as they'd normally be looking for at least a match draw minimum, but Greg Smith's top board win over our Hugh set up the scene for a win for Chess Mates.Sajan Ganger went down for the first time in recent memory to the more than competent Nigel Young, and returning maestro John Gardner saw his Rushden debut scuppered by Dave Curran.James fought on and scrapped well but couldn't avoid further material loss and Will romped home to put Oundle ahead.* Meanwhile, back at the top board batcave, Sam was taking his 181 grade for a walk around Richard Ellis' beach in a sandy Sicilian much to the distress of Richard's bikini-clad pieces which were struggling to find a foothold on the shifting surface, but Jeff Owen & Keith Bristow were having keener and more balanced games to offer up some hope for the B-Team.
